Profile

Born in Saitama, Japan, I spent my childhood in the United States. Through an exchange program in New Zealand and teaching experience in Singapore, I developed a strong interest in methods for acquiring languages beyond one’s native tongue. After graduating from Doshisha University with a degree in English literature, I pursued research on the motivations of multilingual learners at the Graduate School of Kansai University (Ph.D. in Foreign Language Education). After working as a part-time lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Kinki University and the Faculty of Policy Science at Ritsumeikan University, I began my current position in April 2025.

Research /
educational interests

I have primarily conducted research on language learning with a focus on Japanese international students, particularly exploring how the motivation of multilingual learners changes over time. Using qualitative research methods, I carefully track the complex fluctuations in students’ motivation to gain a deep understanding of their experiences. Through this, I believe I can contribute to the development of the next generation of language learners.

Message

Language learning has enjoyable moments as well as challenging ones. There are times when students become interested in the outside world and moments when they feel confused by the differences. I believe all of these experiences are important processes that lead to learning and growth. I hope to share these moments with my students and grow alongside them.
