Ritsumeikan concludes agreement of cooperation on education with Education New Zealand; aims to cultivate talent equipped with a global perspective and practical skills

On October 21, 2025, Ritsumeikan University signed an agreement of cooperation on education at the university and its affiliated schools with Education New Zealand (“ENZ”; located in Wellington, New Zealand; Group General Manager, International and Sector Engagement Sahinde Pala), an independent government agency of the New Zealand government.

The parties to the agreement are Ritsumeikan University, all of its affiliated schools (Ritsumeikan Junior and Senior High School, Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School, Ritsumeikan Keisho Junior and Senior High School, Ritsumeikan Moriyama Junior and Senior High School, and Ritsumeikan Primary School), and ENZ, and together they will promote information sharing and cooperation pertaining to each school’s study abroad and training programs in New Zealand.

Ritsumeikan has defined the development of global human resources as one of the pillars of its education, and each of its affiliated schools has developed its original outbound and inbound study programs. In particular, Ritsumeikan Uji Junior and Senior High School has been conducting long-term study abroad and student exchange programs with New Zealand since 2000, building up both a record of educational achievements and relationships of trust. It was these efforts that led to the establishment of a partnership with ENZ. This collaboration deepened via the support provided for developing study abroad host institutions and faculty visits to local educational facilities, ultimately leading to the conclusion of this agreement of cooperation.

With this agreement as a starting point, Ritsumeikan University, its affiliated schools, and ENZ will promote concrete cooperation in the field of education to further strengthen the development of talent equipped with a global perspective and practical skills.

Details of the agreement

  • Inter-school exchange (affiliated schools)
Support for and facilitation of the development of relationships with partner schools, student exchange programs (one year, one semester, etc.), and study trips to New Zealand
  • Inter-university cooperation (Ritsumeikan University)
Support for and facilitation of the referral of partner institutions and scholarship programs between Ritsumeikan University and universities in New Zealand
  • Information sharing
Facilitation of the regular sharing of information on education and progressive practices at and among partner institutions
  • Events
Provision of information and support for participation in study abroad fairs held at Ritsumeikan University and its affiliated schools for institutions providing international education in New Zealand

Comment from Chancellor Yoshio Nakatani

I believe this agreement will greatly contribute to further accelerating the global expansion of the Ritsumeikan Academy by ensuring the continuity and further development of exchange programs between New Zealand and the Ritsumeikan Academy's affiliated primary, junior high, and high schools as well as the colleges and graduate schools of Ritsumeikan University. Building on this agreement, I expect that cooperation between both institutions will not only enhance existing exchange programs but also facilitate new initiatives. This will cultivate numerous individuals who can thrive in the global arena and create social impact, and it will ultimately contribute to the further development of relations between Japan and New Zealand.
