Dean of the School of Innovative Design Engineering (IDE) at Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) Visits Ritsumeikan to Further Strengthen Research and Educational Collaboration
From Wednesday, July 1 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026, a delegation led by the Dean of the School of Innovative Design Engineering (IDE) at the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) visited our university. During their stay, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to President Yoshio Nakatani and held discussions with representatives from various units expected to play key roles in future collaboration, including the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Design and Arts, the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space (currently under development), the International Affairs Division, and the Research Affairs Division.
The purpose of this visit was to further advance research and educational cooperation between the two institutions, particularly through joint research activities with the Information Systems Science and Engineering (ISSE) Course of our Faculty of Information Science and Engineering.
During the meetings, participants engaged in active discussions on concrete initiatives for collaboration, including the exchange and acceptance of students through scholarship programs supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt(MOHE), Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA), and Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD); reciprocal student exchanges through short-term programs; and the promotion of international joint research projects and co-authored publications among researchers.
Since signing an academic cooperation agreement with E-JUST in 2011, our university has continuously supported the institution through initiatives such as strengthening its administrative organization, dispatching staff members, and providing training programs. Since July 2019, President Nakatani has served as a member of the E-JUST Board of Trustees, and in May 2023, the two universities concluded a student exchange agreement.
Furthermore, the partnership has continued to deepen through the acceptance of E-JUST researchers under a research collaboration agreement signed in September 2025, and the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on staff collaboration in July 2026.
Moving forward, our university will continue to promote the development of academic and institutional networks across Africa based on its partnership with E-JUST. Through enhanced international exchange among researchers and students, we remain committed to fostering the global circulation of talent and knowledge and further advancing the realization of an international brain circulation ecosystem.
