On November 11, 2016, the Ritsumeikan University Economic Association and the Institute of Social Systems held the Japan-China Academic Seminar at Ritsumeikan University’s Biwako-Kusatsu Campus. Professor Cheng Minxuan and Professor Chen Shi of the College of Economics, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics presented on their research regarding “K. Marx’s Thought on ‘Property Right in General’” and “Shadow Banking in China and the Macroprudential Policy Framework,” respectively.

Prior to the seminar, five members of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics delegation headed by Director Wen Hongyi paid a courtesy visit to Vice Chancellor Toyohiko Matsubara. Vice Chancellor Matsubara recalled their academic exchanges during his visit to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in 2012, and reiterated his hopes for strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two universities. In addition, the delegation held talks with Dean Akira Matsumoto of College of Economics and Director Hiroshi Tanaka of the Institute of Social Systems regarding the enhancement of their graduate student and research exchanges (the talks were also attended by Associate Dean Kazuko Takaya and Professor Ruilin Cao of College of Economics).

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and Ritsumeikan University have continued to hold exchanges including research exchanges and seminars since 2011. In light of these activities, the two universities signed a cooperation agreement in July 2016.

Ritsumeikan University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics expect that their mutual understanding will further deepen and their friendly and cooperative relations will grow even closer.
