JH. WOW: Technology and Home Economics in Kobe

On Saturday, March 18, the WOW Program "Technology and Home Economics in Kobe" was held.
In the morning, the students visited the Takenaka Carpenter's Tools Museum as part of their technical studies. A volunteer guide gave a detailed explanation about Japanese architecture and woodwork. The first-year students commented that the content was very useful for their next year's woodworking study.

In the afternoon, students visited Kitano Kobo as part of their home economics studies, where each student made three "original pork buns". They were filled with cute animals, cartoon characters, and other fun designs. The ones made by the students themselves tasted the best. It was a good cooking class. While the steamed pork buns were waiting to be steamed, rakugo (comic storytelling) researchers from Kobe University came to perform a rakugo performance by Kakuekitei-Sharin and Minatoya-Tetora . Some of the students were banging on the table and laughing so hard that the rather long steaming time passed in a flash.

Finally, the students visited Nankinmachi, where they were able to compare their own pork buns with those made by professionals and enjoy the exotic atmosphere of a foreign country. The students said, "It was really fun and I learned a lot. I am looking forward to doing woodworking next year. I hope they will do the same thing again. I hope we can do the same program again.
The weather was fine, and the program was truly worthwhile.
