On Sunday, June 18, 2023, the Ritsumeikan Uji High School Panthers finished in second place by a narrow 16-17 margin against the Kwansei Gakuin High School Fighters in the final of the 52nd Kansai High School Championship held at Oji Stadium.

Kwansei Gakuin scored just after the start of the game, but the Panthers turned things around in the first half to take a 10-7 lead. In the second half, the Panthers were unable to stop Kwansei Gakuin's attack, allowing them to take a 10-17 lead. However, the Panthers scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter and attempted a comeback with a try for points, but were denied and were unable to close the gap to one point.

The Okugawa Cup (Fighting Spirit Award) was awarded to Yoritake Yamamoto of Ritsumeikan Uji as an individual prize.

Many cheers from the Brass Band Club, Cheerleading Club and many others gave courage to the players for this match. Thank you very much. We are determined to aim for a further top position at the national tournament in the fall.
