SA Activities] Racing Kart - Winner of both Round 3 and Round 4 of the All-Japan Championships!

We would like to introduce the activities of our SA (Scholar Athlete & Artist) students.

Shota Fujii, a first-year high school student who is involved in racing karts, participated in Rounds 3 and 4 of the All-Japan Kart Championship 2023 held at Sportsland SUGO on June 25, and won the All-Japan championship for the first time in Round 3! He also won the 4th round, achieving back-to-back All-Japan victories!

We asked Mr. Fujii, who has won back-to-back All-Japan championships, to reflect on the races.

Round 3

With the small number of cars and the short life of the tires, it was a difficult race to control the pace in the qualifying and pre-final rounds. Some drivers had to retire from the race, leaving some tires on the podium, but they were able to complete the entire session, and in the final, they were able to use the long run pace that is their forte to win their first All-Japan championship.

Round 4

As in Round 3, I carefully controlled my pace in the qualifying and pre-final, and started from 3rd position in the final. In the final, I was able to make use of the points I regretted from Round 3 and attacked with 5 laps to go behind 2nd place while keeping a good tire margin in mind, and was able to make the race unfold as I wanted it to. With a steady pace, I was able to win the All-Japan championship again and become the series point ranking leader.

Impressions and aspirations

I was able to win this race for the first time in about three and a half years. I am also happy that I was able to achieve back-to-back wins and become the series points leader by giving it my all. I have not been able to achieve good results for about three years, but I hope to use the results of this race as a confidence booster so that I can make this season my own.
