From August 3rd to 4th, 2024, the Spring National Junior High School Flag Football Championship, organized by the JAPAN Flag Football Executive Committee, was held at the Yokkaichi Dome. The Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School American Football Club, Panthers, emerged victorious, representing Kansai after advancing through the regional tournament. This marks the fourth time they have won the spring championship since 2016.

Flag football, which incorporates elements of American football, is a sport enjoyed by people of all ages. It has gained attention as it will be featured in the Los Angeles Olympics. Our junior high school American football club actively participates in flag football matches in addition to touch football. The teams are formed by grade, with students devising strategies and deciding on plays and line-ups, while coaches and supervisors observe from the sidelines. After finishing as runners-up in the same tournament last year, the team secretly prepared to win this year, and their efforts paid off with a championship victory, greatly boosting their confidence.

The Yokkaichi Dome provided an excellent environment for the competition, shielding players from the harsh sunlight and offering air conditioning, allowing them to focus on their matches despite the hot season. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the tournament organizers for their thoughtful arrangements.
