High School Baseball Team Collaborates with Ritsumeikan University College of Sport and Health Science
On March 27, the high school hardball baseball team held a collaborative session with the College of Sport and Health Science at Ritsumeikan University as part of a high school-university partnership project. With the cooperation of Associate Professor Toru Kawai and Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Hajime Horiuchi, the session took place at Ritsumeikan University's Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC). As part of the DX High School Project, the event was designed to offer students an opportunity to learn by linking club activities with data analysis.
In Professor Horiuchi’s lecture, he explained the equipment and measurement methods by connecting them to the physics students learn in high school. Students observed the preparation process and had the chance to experience experiments and data collection firsthand.
Markers were attached to a student, and motion capture and force plates were used to measure body movements and forces. After the measurements, Professor Horiuchi presented a portion of the analysis data and provided insights into the students' swings. It was a valuable experience, with detailed explanations in response to students’ questions about their own form and the mechanics of the bat.
Additionally, the session served as an opportunity for students to think about their future career paths. Visiting the campus and learning about the department for the first time, students were able to feel its appeal firsthand. Many commented, “This was extremely helpful as I begin considering which department to choose for my future studies.”
