On Friday, April 25, the 2nd-year junior high school students took part in an off-campus learning program, visiting the National Museum of Ethnology in Suita, Osaka, and Ritsumeikan University’s Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC).
In the morning, students explored the National Museum of Ethnology, which features a wide array of exhibits showcasing the cultures and daily lives of people from around the world. Through displays covering topics such as clothing, food, housing, religion, rituals, music, and visual media, students were exposed to diverse values and lifestyles. They came to realize that what may seem “normal” to them is not necessarily universal. Many students took notes diligently and shared their thoughts with classmates, making the experience a valuable opportunity to reflect on the importance of understanding different cultures and respecting others.
In the afternoon, the students visited Ritsumeikan University’s OIC, where they joined a campus tour led by current university students. As they toured the extensive campus facilities and learned about academic programs, extracurricular activities, and campus life, they were able to envision their own educational paths beyond high school. Many students asked thoughtful questions, showing a growing interest in their future careers and studies.
This off-campus learning experience provided students with insights and inspiration that go beyond the classroom. It not only stimulated their intellectual curiosity but also encouraged them to think more deeply about their futures. We hope that the lessons and perspectives gained on this day will serve them well in their ongoing studies and future decision-making.
