[WOW] Real Shoe Polishing
On Friday, May 30, we once again held the WOW Program: “Real Shoe Polishing.”
We were honored to welcome back Mr. Makoto Akatsuka, a professional shoe shiner, as our instructor this year. Under his clear and careful guidance, students eagerly polished their own leather shoes.
The workshop was not only an opportunity to learn polishing techniques, but also a meaningful time to reflect on the importance of taking care of one’s belongings and maintaining a proper appearance.
This year, some students even brought family members’ shoes in addition to their own, and carefully polished them. We’re sure their family members were delighted to receive such beautifully restored shoes.
Here are a few reflections from the students:
-
“It felt like my heart was polished, too. My parents were surprised to see how clean my shoes and bag had become.”
-
“This was my first time polishing shoes—it was so much fun! I’m so happy with how shiny my loafers are.”
-
“It was my first time, but even as a beginner I was able to get them looking great. I’m really glad I joined.”
-
“I realized people notice your shoes more than you think. I want to try polishing them at home, too.”
