IB Course: Arashiyama CAS Cycling in Kyoto

On Saturday, July 5, students in the IB Course took part in a “CAS Cycling” event. This activity, organized several times throughout the year by cycling-enthusiast IB teachers, is designed to help students experience the joy of cycling while exploring various scenic spots across the Kansai region.

This time, around 25 students from both Year 1 and Year 2 participated. The route took them through Kyoto City, with a major stop at Arashiyama, one of Kyoto’s most iconic tourist destinations. There, students enjoyed lunch while taking in the natural beauty and historic atmosphere, followed by a refreshing gelato break at Sanjo Shopping Street as they continued to experience the charm of Kyoto with all five senses.

Despite the intense heat on the day, all participants encouraged and supported one another throughout the ride and successfully completed the course.

Through this experience, students learned the value of pushing their limits and the importance of mutual support. These lessons will undoubtedly prove valuable as they face challenges in their IB journey. We hope they will continue to overcome obstacles together, drawing on the strength of their shared experiences.

Note: CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) is a core component of the IB Programme, aimed at fostering personal growth and a sense of social responsibility through hands-on learning experiences. Through the three strands—Creativity, Activity, and Service—students engage deeply with both themselves and society, connecting classroom learning with the real world.
