Welcoming Exchange Students from the United States — Four Days of International Exchange
Our school recently welcomed 13 exchange students from the United States for a four-day homestay program. Though the time was short, the students experienced daily life and culture in Japan through their host families, gaining many meaningful insights along the way.
Experiencing Japanese Culture with Host Families
While staying with host families, the exchange students directly experienced daily life in Japan. Through communication that transcended language barriers, mutual cultural understanding naturally deepened, creating unforgettable moments for both the students and the families.
Experiencing the Spirit of Japan through Kendo
On the final day of the program, a Kendo experience was held at school. Members of the Kendo Club led the activity, explaining the traditions and spirit of Japanese martial arts in English. Participants had the chance to try on armor and learn basic movements, allowing them to feel the discipline and values embedded in Kendo. The club members’ sincere efforts to communicate in English left a strong impression on everyone involved.
Sharing Culture Means Reflecting on Culture
Opportunities like this international exchange provide valuable learning experiences not only for visiting students but also for our own students. By living daily life together and explaining their own culture, students are encouraged to reflect on their identities. As a first step toward fostering a global perspective, we hope to continue creating and cherishing such opportunities in the future.
