[Junior High School Baseball Club] Trial Experience with Deer Leather Heat-Dissipating Bandages

Current Students Test Heat-Relief Items Developed by an Alumnus

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, members of the Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School Baseball Club participated in a product trial of heat-dissipating headbands and neckbands during their practice session.

The product was developed by miru. Inc., founded and led by Ms. Minori Nishioka, a first graduating class alumna of our junior high school. It features a high-performance material made with traditional “Kasuga-tanning” deer leather. When moistened with water, it helps dissipate heat for 4–5 hours and also offers antibacterial, mite-resistant, and calming properties—drawing growing attention for its multifunctionality.

First Use of Deer Leather Cooling Gear in Club Practice — Students Notice the Effects

The heat-dissipating bandages have already demonstrated effectiveness at the Japan Equine Science Society’s academic meeting. However, this was the first time junior high students wore them continuously during practice for three days. Students wore them on their foreheads and necks during activities and shared impressions such as: “It felt cool,” “I was able to stay focused,” and “I'm happy to use something created by a school alum.”

Beyond the cooling effect, this experience offered a meaningful opportunity to connect with a graduate and raised motivation through real-world application.

A Learning Connection Between Alumni and Current Students

This initiative stands as a successful example of how alumni expertise can provide learning and growth opportunities for current students. Through the trial, students also developed interest in sports science, traditional materials, and craftsmanship.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Nishioka and miru. Inc. for offering this valuable experience. The Junior High School Baseball Club will continue to pursue its activities with a spirit of exploration and challenge.
