Food Design: Exploring the Future of Agriculture in a Globalized World – Ezura Farm

Guest Lecture by Ms. Yoko Ezura of Ezura Farm

In the Grade 12 IG Humanities Inquiry class “Food Design,” we welcomed Ms. Yoko Ezura from Ezura Farm, who joined us via Zoom from Engaru Town in Hokkaido to talk about new possibilities in agriculture.
As a graduate of our school, Ms. Ezura shared her journey from high school and university life, to employment, new entry into farming, and her current path—speaking with sincerity and clarity that resonated with the students. She also kindly responded to students' questions, and her approach to life through farming and her enjoyment of living authentically gave students a completely new perspective on agriculture, sparking their curiosity.
Today, Ms. Ezura manages farmland in Hokkaido equivalent to 12 Tokyo Domes in size. In addition to farming, she also runs a farm inn, a farm restaurant, and has even ventured into farm weddings. Many of our alumni have participated in her activities as agricultural volunteers.
Tasting the Shirotaki potatoes sent from Ezura Farm, students gained a valuable opportunity to learn more deeply about the producers behind the food.
