Track and Field Club Alumna to Lead the National High School Ekiden on Police Motorcycle

An alumna of our school’s Track and Field Club, Sakura Sunda, who currently serves in the Kyoto Prefectural Police Traffic Mobile Unit, visited our school on December 3. She reported to the principal that she has been selected to ride a police motorcycle to lead the 37th All-Japan High School Girls’ Ekiden Championship, which will be held on December 21.

After graduating from our school, Ms. Sunda enrolled in the College of Social Sciences at Ritsumeikan University and later joined the Kyoto Prefectural Police. Inspired by her own participation in the national high school ekiden, she aspired to become a police officer to lead the very same race. Now working in the traffic unit, she has achieved her long-held dream by being selected for this role.

There is no doubt that having such a respected alumna leading the race on a police motorcycle will be a great source of strength and encouragement for the participating runners.

【Comment from Ms. Sunda】

I will do my utmost to lead the runners so that they can fully demonstrate the results of their training.

The 37th All-Japan High School Girls’ Ekiden Championship will start at 10:20 AM on Sunday, December 21, from Takebishi Stadium Kyoto (Nishikyogoku Athletic Park). Our athletes will dash through the historic roads of Kyoto, aiming for their fourth national victory. We sincerely ask for your enthusiastic support!
