[IB Course] Science Field Trip: Career Exploration at Kyoto Prefectural Tea Research Institute
On December 18, 2024, eleven IB students and three IB science teachers spent the afternoon participating in hands-on workshops at the Kyoto Prefectural Tea Research Institute in Uji City. This "Science Careers" field trip was organized by the IB science department for Year 2 IB students.
During the visit, students chose from various practical workshops and learned how to assess the health of tea fields and the quality of tea leaves. The workshops proved highly engaging and inspiring, prompting several students to express interest in pursuing tea-related topics for their class projects. Some students also began considering volunteer opportunities in tea research as part of their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) activities.

This was the first visit of its kind, and there is hope it will become an annual field trip in the future. The trip offered a valuable opportunity to showcase diverse career paths in the sciences while connecting students to local agricultural research and innovation efforts.
