【Experiencing Traditional Japanese Performing Arts — Noh & Kyogen Performance】
On Sunday, February 1, students from Grade 7 (J1) through Grade 12 (H3) who have an interest in traditional Japanese culture attended a Noh and Kyogen performance.
It was a valuable opportunity for them to experience these traditional forms of Japanese stage art firsthand.
Although the performance was delivered in Japanese, some students found it challenging to fully understand at times due to the older style of language and expressions that differ from modern usage. Even so, they watched with great focus and attentiveness.
In particular, the program “Tsuri Gitsune” (The Fox Trapper) left a strong impression. Despite being the longest piece in the lineup, its acrobatic movements and well-placed humor made it highly enjoyable, and the students appeared to be truly engaged.
This experience of stepping into the world of traditional performing arts will help broaden each student’s interests and perspectives, and we hope it will lead to further learning and a wide range of future experiences.
