[High School Calligraphy Club] Yui Kayama to Hold a Solo Exhibition
A third-year high school student in the Calligraphy Club (IB Programme), Ms. Yui Kayama, held a solo exhibition over two days from Saturday, April 4 to Sunday, April 5, 2026, under the theme “Calligraphy and the Flow of Time.” The venue was the 7th-floor Exchange Foyer of Onikuru.

This solo exhibition was planned out of Ms. Kayama’s desire to introduce the diverse forms of calligraphic expression she has encountered while studying calligraphy, presented along the flow of time. During the creation of the works, she challenged herself with various styles of script and, in particular, discovered a strong fascination with clerical script. Drawing inspiration from classical clerical-script character forms, she completed many works.
In addition, works in semi-cursive script created during her junior high school years were also exhibited, allowing visitors to see how the same characters can take on different expressions depending on the script, as well as to sense the growth of her calligraphic expression over time.
Over the two days, more than 200 visitors attended the exhibition and participated in a water-calligraphy workshop and a survey about different script styles. Surrounded by warm words from visitors, Ms. Kayama reflected with a smile, saying, “It was an extremely wonderful experience,” bringing the solo exhibition to a close.
