Middle School Students Attend Theater Appreciation Performance

On Tuesday, July 8, our middle school students attended a special theater performance as part of their annual drama appreciation program. They enjoyed "Helen Keller: Resonating Hearts", presented by the Tokyo Engeki Ensemble Kaze.

As the students entered the main hall, they were immediately impressed by the full-scale stage set, and expressions of amazement could be heard throughout the audience.

Before the performance, the cast members conducted an interactive workshop, where students learned the finger-spelling signs that would be used during the climax of the play. Guided by the actors in a lively rehearsal-style session, the students enthusiastically participated by speaking aloud and practicing the signs, which further heightened their anticipation for the performance. During the climactic scene of the play, the students joined in using finger spelling, creating the performance together with the cast in a truly memorable and meaningful experience.

After the performance, an optional backstage tour and Q&A session were held, giving students the opportunity to explore the stage set and speak with the performers. Many students gathered on the stage, and some third-year middle school students even sought advice about the play they will present at the Koho Festival in September. It was clear that the performance had inspired them and provided valuable insights for their own theatrical activities.

The members of the theater company praised the students for their enthusiastic participation and their warm, responsive audience behavior throughout the performance. More than simply watching a play, the students were given the opportunity to participate, learn, and experience theater firsthand, making it an exceptionally meaningful drama appreciation event.
