As part of the IB Course, students took part in the Shimanami Kaido Cycling Program from July 20 to 22 as part of their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) experiences.

Blessed with fine weather on the first day, students enjoyed cycling through the stunning scenery of the Seto Inland Sea, undeterred by the summer heat. Along the way, they also experienced making caramel and swimming in the sea, spending a fulfilling day immersed in nature and local culture. Their smiles and enthusiasm were evident throughout the activities, and the program provided valuable opportunities for students from different grade levels to strengthen their connections.

On the second day, students challenged themselves with a long-distance ride of approximately 60 kilometers. Although some experienced muscle cramps due to the intense heat, everyone encouraged and supported one another, enabling the entire group to complete the course successfully. Stops at cafés, a gelato shop, and a beach provided welcome opportunities to rest, recharge, and deepen friendships along the way.

On the third day, students explored the historic city of Onomichi, learning about its rich history and culture before returning to Kyoto by Shinkansen. These three days, filled with nature, culture, and meaningful connections with classmates, became an invaluable experience that fostered personal growth and lasting learning for every student.

In the IB, education extends beyond acquiring knowledge; it places great importance on developing character through authentic experiences. During this program, students not only challenged their own limits but also experienced firsthand the importance of supporting one another and overcoming difficulties together. Even in moments when they could not succeed alone, they moved forward by encouraging and helping each other. Their actions truly embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes of Risk-takers, Caring, and Balanced. We hope that the lessons learned through this experience will continue to inspire their school life, future CAS activities, and lifelong learning, helping them grow further as IB learners prepared to make meaningful contributions to the global community.
