Why did you choose Ritsumeikan University?

In the realm of Japanese academia, a multitude of esteemed universities extend English-taught courses tailored to the needs of international students. Nevertheless, the current inclination is toward programs within the domain of natural sciences, often leaving individuals, such as myself, equipped with an undergraduate background in finance and accounting, with limited avenues for pursuit. Notably, Ritsumeikan University emerges as an exception, presenting an exclusive opportunity by offering both natural sciences and social science graduate programs in English. This unique feature significantly enhances the prospects for international students, affording individuals of diverse academic backgrounds, like myself, an elevated likelihood of attaining an advanced degree.

Their encouragement during challenging times has been instrumental.

Theme of Master Thesis, About reality of research

My thesis delves into the nexus between agricultural labor productivity and economic development within the Central America and Caribbean region. The focal point of the research is to scrutinize the influence of official development assistance (ODA) on both the broader economic landscape and the specific agricultural sector, with a keen interest in understanding its impact on labor productivity within the agricultural domain.

Conducting this research demands unwavering attention and commitment from the outset. As an international student, the thesis journey is facilitated by comprehensive support from both the thesis supervisor and sub-supervisor, ensuring that guidance is readily available. Furthermore, the university has a big library and access to academic journals such as Oxford Journal which facilitates usage of highranked published research papers. I consider myself fortunate to have an exceptional thesis supervisor and sub-supervisor who excel in providing invaluable support throughout this academic endeavor. It has been a great learning journey.

Story about the difficulty that you faced

The most difficult thing I have had to face is not being around my loved ones from Belize. However, in the midst of this hardship, the support of my Japanese friends, as well as friends from various backgrounds, have been my anchor. They have become my surrogate family here, filling the void of homesickness with camaraderie and understanding.

In addition, Ritsumeikan University holds a special place as my true alma mater. Even without explicit knowledge of my personal struggles, the university community consistently welcomes me with warm smiles and a genuine concern for my well-being. Their unwavering support contributes significantly to making my journey in Japan not only academically fulfilling but also emotionally reassuring.
