Tell us about your research theme.

I am extremely grateful to be selected by the Japanese government as a recipient of the MEXT scholarship in 2009. This award has been a valuable asset to my doctoral studies and future career in the field of integrated science and engineering. My research uses field surveys and experimental setup. The research aims to investigate the possibilities of decentralized greywater reclamation and reuse for increasing the access to safe water use, improving sanitation and improving wastewater management in peri-urban areas of Bangkok, Thailand. The research has been built upon four scenarios: (1) feasibility assessment of greywater reclamation and reuse under certain conditions (water infrastructure, environmental issues, greywater characteristics and public acceptance of water reuse); (2) quantifying actual surfactant discharge loadings by domestic detergent use in order to develop the reclamation and reuse system for domestic greywater containing surfactants; (3) determining the fates of detergent surfactants in water environments; and (4) biological greywater treatment using biofilm process, focusing on removals of detergent surfactant (methylene blue active substance (MBAS) and linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS)), the effect of aeration and hydraulic retention time (HRT), sludge production rate and hydrolysis of polyphosphate. Based on the research findings, the potential decentralized greywater reclamation and reuse have been discussed and proposed to cope with the current issues in the study area.

How do you think your experience at Ritsumeikan will help you achieve your future goals?

I have gained real life experience at Ritsumeikan. My Japanese supervisor supported my research and life by providing me with knowledge and teaching me new thinking processes. I worked with Japanese student groups who help and share ideas on research. I had the opportunity to present my research in two academic conferences: (1) IWA World Congress on Water, Climate and Energy (IWA-WCE 2012) in Dublin, Ireland and (2) Water and Environment Technology Conference (WET2012) in Tokyo, Japan. After attending these academic conferences, I have been able to build a global research network. I have published papers in international and domestic journals. And soon, I will hold a doctoral degree. My experience at Ritsumeikan will greatly help me to achieve my future career goals.

What is your favorite thing about Ritsumeikan University?

I like the scenery at the university and the various festivals in the university held by students.

Tell us about a unique experience you had at Ritsumeikan.

I gained knowledge in areas related to research skills including thinking, planning, putting ideas into action, communication, writing, and presenting and sharing information.
