- New 1,000-yen, 5,000-yen, and 10,000-yen banknotes were launched in July 2024. These banknotes not only feature new portrait figures and design elements, but they also employ sophisticated technology to prevent counterfeiting. From the time when various articles such as shells and swords were used as money in ancient China to today's virtual currencies and crypto assets, "money," despite its changing form, has always played an important role in driving the economy and society. At Ritsumeikan University, there are a number of researchers in diverse fields—from economics and business administration to literature, law, and information security—who are conducting research related to money. These studies reveal the diverse aspects of our contemporary society.
