Why I Became a Researcher

When I was in school, I entered the world of pharmaceutical science from research in the fields of biochemistry, toxicology, and environmental chemistry. However, when I was working in a university hospital pharmacy about 30 years ago, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare at the time had issued a report on severe interactions between drugs (taking different drugs at the same time), and I wanted to understand the cause and mechanisms of these interactions through basic experiments, so I began research related to pharmacokinetics with a focus on central transportation using animals and cells. Even today, there is no change in my desire to research things that have become clinical issues.

Research Information

Research Area and Theme

Clinical Pharmacy, Drug Informatics

I will orient the proper use of pharmaceutical products and the optimization of drug therapy from the perspective of “drug fostering and evolution.”

Thoughts on Research Theme

Pharmaceuticals that have been released into the world through “drug discovery” are only used by about 1,000 people. There may also be instances where these medicines are used in an explosive number of cases after being marketed, and watching over these cases to develop drugs is “drug fostering and evolution.” I hope that I can contribute to safe and appropriate drug therapies through research for those who use pharmaceuticals.

Message to Students

一川 暢宏 学生へのメッセージ 一川 暢宏 学生へのメッセージ

I take students who aim to be pharmacists and send them out into the world as medical professionals to be proud of

After being on clinical sites for a long time and observing medical practitioners, I believe that it is my duty to take students who aim to be pharmacists, or the “bearers of medical care,” and send them out into the world as medical professionals to be proud of. To my students I want to communicate through my classes, workshops, and research that pharmaceuticals are things that watch over our lives as well as make us grow, and that to achieve that, not neglecting a spirit of life improvement and conducting personal life time management is necessary for all people who are involved in pharmaceutical science, such as pharmacists and research including drug discovery.
