Policies

Mission

The objective of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Ritsumeikan University is to foster professionals who possess the sense of mission and ethics required to engage in human life and health through pharmaceuticals, who will contribute to human health and wellbeing, and who will be able to play an active role in the global arena. The specific professional development objectives of the individual departments are as follows.

Department of Pharmacy

The objective of the Department of Pharmacy is to foster pharmacists who possess advanced expert knowledge and practical skills regarding pharmaceuticals and the qualities of a healthcare professional and who will play a leading role as members of medical teams at local pharmacies and hospitals. The department also aims to foster professionals who are able to contribute to the development of the field of medical pharmacy as pharmacists with a research mindset.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences

The objective of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to foster professionals who have advanced expert knowledge and research skills in the development of new drugs and who are able to contribute to basic research into and clinical development of pharmaceuticals.

Admission Policy

To equip students with highly specialized capabilities in the pharmaceutical sciences in line with the advancement of medicine, the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences seeks students who meet the following criteria.

  • (1)A basic knowledge of science and mathematics and scientific thinking.
  • (2)An problem inquiring mind, social skills, and a certain level of communication ability.
  • (3)For the Department of Pharmacy, an interest in leading-edge medicine, a strong desire to become a pharmacist as an advanced professional expert, and the determination to spare no effort in achieving that goal
  • (4)For the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, a strong desire to engage in basic research and clinical development in the field of new drug development and related fields and to play an active role in the global arena, and the determination to spare no effort in achieving that goal.

Curriculum Policy

To foster professionals who are able to contribute to human health and wellbeing through pharmaceuticals, the study curriculum of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is organized according to the following policies:

Department of Pharmacy

  • (1)Deliver subjects that will cultivate a rich general education and human skills.
  • (2)Deliver subjects that will cultivate that attitude and sense of ethics that are appropriate for pharmacists as healthcare professionals.
  • (3)Deliver, in a systematic way, subjects that will cultivate the knowledge and skills required of pharmacists, from basic pharmaceutical sciences to practical medical pharmacy.
  • (4)Deliver subjects that will cultivate the communication skills required of pharmacists as healthcare professionals.
  • (5)Deliver subjects that will cultivate the ability to seek out and resolve problems based on wide-ranging knowledge, logical thinking abilities, and a research mindset that are able to accommodate the advancement of medicine and science.
  • (6)Deliver subjects that will help students to obtain knowledge about the fields of health, medicine, and welfare that form the foundation of community healthcare.
  • (7)Deliver subjects, in a systematic way, that will cultivate the ability to gather and communicate information in English.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • (1)Deliver subjects that will cultivate a rich general education and human skills.
  • (2)Deliver subjects, in a systematic way, that will cultivate the knowledge and skills required for cutting-edge research in new drug development with a foundation in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • (3)Deliver subjects that will cultivate wide-ranging knowledge and logical thinking abilities that are able to accommodate the ongoing development and advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences and medicine.
  • (4) Deliver subjects that will cultivate the ability to seek out and resolve problems that basic research and clinical development at companies and universities require.
  • (5)Deliver subjects, in a systematic way, that will cultivate the ability to gather and communicate information in English.

Diploma Policy

The objective of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to foster professionals who will study the natural sciences related to human health with a foundation in pharmaceutical sciences and obtain expert knowledge and research skills from basic to clinical pharmacy, and who will be able to contribute to human health and well-being through pharmaceuticals. To this end, the College has established the following four qualities (education goals) that students should have acquired by the time they graduate. Students who acquire these qualities and obtain the credits stipulated in the curricula of the individual departments shall be deemed to have achieved the individual department’s human resources development objective and shall be conferred the degree of Bachelor.

Department of Pharmacy

  • (1)Rich human skills, expert knowledge and abilities, the appropriate attitude, sense of ethics and sense of mission, and communication skills, based on the kind of wide-ranging education that pharmacists, as healthcare professionals, should obtain.
  • (2)Knowledge, an inquiring mind, and the ability to seek out and resolve problems that can accommodate the advancement of medicine.
  • (3)The knowledge, skills, and attitude toward healthcare, medicine, and welfare that are required for healthcare professionals in local communities.
  • (4)The ability to gather and communicate information in English that will enable graduates to play an active role in the international community.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • (1) The knowledge, skills, and ability to seek out and resolve problems that are required to conduct cutting-edge research for the development of new drugs.
  • (2)A sense of independence, desire for advancement, and inquiring mind as a researcher.
  • (3) A sense of ethics and sense of mission that are appropriate for a person who is engaged in work that is related to human health.
  • (4)The ability to gather and communicate information in English that will enable graduates to play an active role in the international community.
