・2015 Graduated from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nihon Pharmaceutical University ・2019 Completed Doctoral Course, Division of Biomedical Sciences, Graduate School of Biomedical and Health Sciences, Hiroshima University
The first thing that caused me to become a researcher was thinking that I would like to try something and then just participating a year earlier than I was supposed to in the lab of a professor that I had interacted with. There, I was involved in drug metabolism research. After experiencing a 6-month hospital and pharmacy practicum under those conditions, I saw that the expression of medicinal effects and side effects would vary greatly for each patient who used pharmaceutical products, and because of this, I strongly felt that there was a need for research on drug metabolism, which is one of the causes of this variation. From this, I thought that I would like to become a pharmacist scientist who can contribute to patients through research by advancing basic research on pharmacokinetics, including drug metabolism.
Clarifying the Mechanism of Variation in Pharmacokinetics
I aim to individualize and optimize drug treatment from the basic viewpoint of pharmacokinetics by clarifying changes in the expression control and function of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters due to various factors, and clarifying the mechanism of variation causing those changes.
There are individual differences in the efficacy and side effects of pharmaceutical products, and individual differences in pharmacokinetics are one of the causes. In other words, if it is possible to predict and control individual pharmacokinetics, it will be possible to perform optimal drug treatments for all patients. In my research, I will focus on the induction and inhibition of the expression of drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters as well as changes in functions, and clarify the factors and mechanisms that cause these variations. Through these efforts, I hope to make new proposals for more individualized and optimized drug treatments.
I want you to actively take on various things and foster diversity during your days as a university student
Currently, many pharmacists and pharmacy department graduates are active in hospitals, pharmacies, and companies. I also hope that future pharmacists and pharmacy department graduates will open up new opportunities that make use of their professional skills and expand the possibilities of pharmacy. To that end, along with acquiring knowledge on pharmacokinetics and other pharmacy expertise, I want you to actively take on various things and foster diversity during your days as a university student. I hope that I can provide support through labs, practicums, and classes so that the student lives of all of you who will lead the future of pharmacy will be meaningful.
