Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. This was my first time ever studying economics and at the start i found it challenging but slowly i started learning it. Also it was not easy to adopt to life in japan at the start because of issues like language but so far it has not stopped me from getting used to life in japan. Finding study and home life balance especially in a foreign country made me realise this strength that i have aquired.

Multitasking

When facing many challenges living in Japan, I realized I need to find new approaches to make matter more convenient.

Innovation

I had to move from my country and start to live alone, that means that I had to change everything that I was used, I start to learn more about myself in a new environment. In my home I was used to spend time with my family and pets indoors, now, that they aren't here, I have to motivate myself to go out and give myself quality time, eating healthy and have a good balance of my lifestyle. And sometimes, the routine get the worse of me, thinking living day by day just doing what I have to do, school, work, cooking, etc., but then I remember that I am fulfilling my dreams in one of my favorites country, so, should give me credit of the feeling of accomplishments.

Self-efficacy

I have had to adapt to the differences in the Japanese education system and just living in Japan in general. It was a really big culture shock for me.

Innovation

Looking back to myself at the start of the semester, I feel like I have more discipline and able to recover from failures better.

Resilience

I have always been scared to step out of my comfort zone, but words and advice has led me to gain confidence and to try new things.

Innovation

Before coming to Rits, I have always been in a small school with only a few number of students. I was always with the same people, and have never really experienced change. However, right after coming to Rits, I have met a lot of new people with different backgrounds, experiences, and feelings. I learned that each person has their own background, so we shouldn't assume things, and we should be careful with how we interact with them.

Empathy

Since I am currently studying in the IB course, I get a lot of assignments, and oftentimes, it is difficult to balance out my studies with the other activities that I do outside of school. However, after experimenting with different studying methods, I began to be better at balancing out my work. I also learned to give up on some things to make time for the other things that I need to prioritize.

Multitasking

I have been in an all-English-speaking environment for only 3 years. However, many of my classmates have spoken English for almost their entire life. Because of this, when I first started the IB program at the Ritsumeikan Uji, I felt like I was failing every class. However, after getting used to this new environment, and getting the support from my teachers, I slowly began to build confidence in some of my classes.
