The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.
*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. This was my first time ever studying economics and at the start i found it challenging but slowly i started learning it. Also it was not easy to adopt to life in japan at the start because of issues like language but so far it has not stopped me from getting used to life in japan. Finding study and home life balance especially in a foreign country made me realise this strength that i have aquired.
Multitasking
Master's studies require many initiatives from yourself in finding information about campus activities, activities outside the study, research materials, and initiatives to always improve research.
Initiative
I have no background in Economics and it was quite new for me. I had to work extra hard to bridge the gap. I met my classfellows outside the classes, discussed their routines, study patterns, strengths and weaknesses. This way i was able to offer them help in my strong areas and vice versa. This practice not only develope team work in us but also we built a strong bond of mutual care and respect.
Teamwork
So far I have attended lectures well and done research according to the advice of sensei. My research experienced an increase in progress and positive response during the research project seminar. Although I haven't received my grades yet but I'm grateful I got a good study.
Resilience
Since I am currently studying in the IB course, I get a lot of assignments, and oftentimes, it is difficult to balance out my studies with the other activities that I do outside of school. However, after experimenting with different studying methods, I began to be better at balancing out my work. I also learned to give up on some things to make time for the other things that I need to prioritize.
Multitasking
Through classes I was able to deepen my understanding of things more this year.
Understanding
I have been in an all-English-speaking environment for only 3 years. However, many of my classmates have spoken English for almost their entire life. Because of this, when I first started the IB program at the Ritsumeikan Uji, I felt like I was failing every class. However, after getting used to this new environment, and getting the support from my teachers, I slowly began to build confidence in some of my classes.
Resilience
I wasnt doing well on a science project, then I thought about changing things up a bit, but that failed too. I kept on changing and innovating until I got the perfect one and I passed.
Resilience
The reason why I decided to study in AECAL is the integrity with which Affect is approached academically. Through Kansei Engineering and similar perspectives, the design of technology has Empathy as a solid basis for all what comes next. It implies thinking of the users and their emotional experience, as well as the functionality of the solutions we propose.
