10th AJI Research Frontline Seminar on “Towards Redefining Human Society by Applying Nakamura Yujiro's Philosophy of the 'Rhythm' Under the title of “Critiques of Social Divides Today”

On October 29, 2019, the 10th AJI Research Frontline Seminar was held, and Dr. Nobuyuki Matsui (Research Fellow, Asia-Japan Research Institute, Ritsumeikan University) gave a presentation titled “Towards Redefining Human Society by Applying Nakamura Yujiro's Philosophy of the 'Rhythm' Under the title of “Critiques of Social Divides Today”.

Dr. Matsui explained that in this high-tech modern society, human beings have lost their connection to the existential reality that surrounds them. In response, he suggested that the “Rhythm Theory” in Yujiro Nakamura's philosophy could contribute to a fundamental reconsideration of the relationship between humans and nature. He proposed that we can break through the barrier to understanding by embracing the unique rhythms of each culture. In response to this ambitious explanation of the development of the philosophical concepts learned from Yujiro Nakamura to overcome the disconnected modern Western civilization, a fulfilling debate took place with fundamental questions from the floor, including how to capture modernity.
