Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. Information that could identify individuals has been removed or modified before publication.

After I took my Japanese Exam of Set 2, both the listening and reading, I felt defeated and like a failure because even though I had been putting extra effort into learning more for around a year, I felt I had improved very little. Shortly After this, I called my mom and spoke about how the test made me feel, and she helped me realize that there was nothing more I could do than try my best, as I had, and while that was a bit disappointing, the idea that I had tried my best and still failed, it was comforting.

Resilience

My understanding improved the more I tried my best and took more ownership of my own work of studies and club. Especially in biology, where I improved my understanding the more I studied and asked the teacher questions, taking ownership and responsibility of my studies.

Understanding

When I made a mistake and my parents corrected me or taught me the right thing to do.

Initiative

When I was with my teammates of Baton twirling club, we collaborated to match a movement that looked quite messy and from then, I learnt how to work collaboratively with others and give advice to improve.

Teamwork

I wish that I was able to choose more than 1 for this one, as well as the previous one. Many people has helped me to motivate me to keep going.

Initiative

Nothing much to say, but I think I've learnt to learn from my failures or successes, especially my studies. I've been struggling with maths or science to a degree. Though, as well as asking advice from a trustworthy friend or parent, I've learnt to try new solutions and solve my problem. Not only did I ask the teachers for extra help, but also pondered on how to improve the situation. Sometimes I'd procrastinate like everyone else too :)
