Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

I need to understand my academic affairs that is changing over time. Now, I am doing some kind of research related to microeconomics. To analyze the microeconomics' affair, I need to have stronger understanding on not only my study area, such as local context, but also technical affairs. Nowadays, everything is changing very quickly, and following the old model or method is not enough to analyze and evaluate current modern affairs. I have to study/ learn a lot to get better and advanced knowledges and technical skills and to know better understanding on my study areas.

Understanding

Especially in APU where everyone comes from different walks of life, we have to have a high sense of empathy. We cannot just think about ourselves and expect people to respect us. That is why we should be the ones understanding people too. One instance is that when one of my friend was really struggling a lot with her Economics. At first I did not understand why she was so sad, then I approached her and we talked. It was an eye opening experience for me and I decided to help her. I supported her studies and put myself in her shoes. We had weekly study sessions and I tried to accommodate to her concern. In the end, we both got good scores and she thanked me. I was really happy to see her grow and bloom.

Empathy

During my graduation research class in my University, I had to choose the problem I want to solve. In my case, I chose the problem in object detection, which belongs to the computer vision field. The problem I decided to tackle was extremely difficult, and required a lot of understanding in many concepts that I haven't had the opportunity to learn before. Due to the occasion, I've spent a lot of time in diving deep into the literature, and was able to develop the skill to understand thinks from scientific point of view.

Understanding

When there is a lot of homework to be done, it is more important to focus on completion than perfection.

Multitasking

I think its mostly because I'm mostly in the group works and team working inside and outside the class and I noticed that after doing that more, I noticed that I got a lot better in interacting in groups and producing better outcomes.

Teamwork

I divide my work and balance my time and starting doing my tasks or assignments.

My self efficacy grow so much because I start to spend much more time for self studying as well as increase my concentrative skills.

Self-efficacy

I realized the competency that i had acquired was resilience was during the time around my exams. During the exam period there were many things that i had to study and i didn't know what to do. Instead of giving up and just failing the exams or getting a bad score, I continued to study hard and asked my professors, seniors and friends when i didn't understand something. I am someone who usually finds it hard to concentrate on tasks so this was very difficult to me. By asking my teachers and not giving up in the early stages I got good scores on my exams and i hope that translates to a good grade at the end of the semester.

Resilience

During the exam period, there were various assignments due at the same time. For example, EE, the IAs, self-study, and assignments were to be done simultaneously. This required multitasking, where I worked on one assignment while finishing up the other.
