Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. Information that could identify individuals has been removed or modified before publication.

I believed my teamwork grew a lot because I did a lot of extracurricular events that made me focus on teamwork, such as when I helped BBP carry out the stall on school festival day.

Teamwork

I developed my teamwork skills during a project in Thailand in my second year (2023) as part of the CRPS program. This project required our team to immerse ourselves in a local community, identify pressing issues, and devise solutions. At the start, choosing a focus was challenging because each team member had different ideas. To address this, we held regular meetings to reach a consensus on a direction we all supported. The challenges intensified once we arrived in Thailand, specifically in the Klong Toey slum, where we conducted our survey. Collaborating effectively was essential for gathering and analyzing data, as well as presenting our findings. Though disagreements arose frequently, our shared commitment to helping the community kept us on track. Together, we proposed a solution to help the community address fire safety issues. This experience highlighted how essential teamwork is in achieving meaningful impact.

Teamwork

When: During my internship in the summer of 2022. Where: At a marketing firm located in the business district of my city. Who: I worked closely with a team of five interns and reported directly to a senior marketing manager. Additionally, we collaborated with clients to gather insights and feedback for campaign development. What: Our primary task was to develop a promotional campaign for a small business client launching a new product. The success of the campaign relied heavily on understanding the client’s needs and translating those into a clear and compelling marketing strategy.

Teamwork

I’ve had times where I was in a big trouble and I had no one else to turn to but my close friends. They helped me understand that we humans are social creatures and require each other to work towards life. Without friends and teamwork, there wouldnt be the successful human civilisation we have now.

Teamwork

Last two semesters, I took courses that were very teamwork heavy, and I had a fair share between good teamwork experiences and terrible ones. Working with responsible and insightful peers enabled me to learn more not about the topic the team has to cover but also new perspectives and skills from my friends. Working with irresponsible and lackluster teammates, however, sharpened my leadership skills and my resilience as I worked alone and carried the teamwork most of the time, despite motivating and calling on my teammates.

Teamwork

I think its mostly because I'm mostly in the group works and team working inside and outside the class and I noticed that after doing that more, I noticed that I got a lot better in interacting in groups and producing better outcomes.

Teamwork

I felt that bad teammates in projects are not that bad but I realized that by relying less on them and more on others, the project moved forward a lot better and quicker.

Teamwork

I developed this skill mostly during working in groups. Through most the group work, I was able to learn some leadership skills and also some other skills such as, getting things done before the deadline.

Teamwork

In Ritsumeikan University, I had the opportunity to attend few cross cultural interactive courses. Here, I had classmates who only speak Japanese with very little English whereas, I am still learning very basic Japanese. Due to the language barrier, at the beginning, I found it difficult to cooperate in team activities. However, with the expert guidance of my professors and my classmates, I gradually found a middle ground and was more confident in contributing to the team and class. This opportunity has helped me feel confident while working with people from different cultures and backgrounds which I can use more in my life.
