Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. In this case, currently in my second semester, I have gotten an oppurtunity to work in a dedicated manner on this semester's Project Based Learning(PBL) in addition to working on a research along with one of my professors. This has given me a chance to improve my Intiative skill, Self-efficacy, Teamworking skills and my Understanding capability. So far, due to Ritsumeikan facilities and accessibility, I have been able to work on the projects in a consistant manner.

Initiative

There were many courses in which I felt I was facing failure and because of that, I was feeling frustrated and depressed. I wanted to give up. But my own motivation made me continue.

Self-efficacy

I started believing more of myself, knowing what I can do and what i can't do. This made me realize self value and it made it me doing task much easier.

Self-efficacy

It was more like an overall feeling that I have managed things better

Self-efficacy

My self efficacy grow so much because I start to spend much more time for self studying as well as increase my concentrative skills.

Self-efficacy

Research project in high school in the topic of “Creating a class schedule with a more constant daily load using genetic algorithms”.

Self-efficacy

I gained a lot of experience and understanding on the things that I have never done before. I have never done research to this extent and throughout the semester, I have learned how to conduct primary research.

Understanding

I developed this skill mostly during working in groups. Through most the group work, I was able to learn some leadership skills and also some other skills such as, getting things done before the deadline.

Teamwork

In Ritsumeikan University, I had the opportunity to attend few cross cultural interactive courses. Here, I had classmates who only speak Japanese with very little English whereas, I am still learning very basic Japanese. Due to the language barrier, at the beginning, I found it difficult to cooperate in team activities. However, with the expert guidance of my professors and my classmates, I gradually found a middle ground and was more confident in contributing to the team and class. This opportunity has helped me feel confident while working with people from different cultures and backgrounds which I can use more in my life.
