Ritsumeikan University Students Give Special Lecture at Ritsumeikan Primary School as Part of Primary School-University Partnership: Using Adobe Express to Create Field Trip Video Presentations
On November 25, 2024, Ritsumeikan University partnered with Ritsumeikan Primary School to conduct a special lecture using Adobe Express at Ritsumeikan Primary School. This initiative aims to improve digital literacy by having Ritsumeikan University students pass on their creative skills to primary school students.
Five Ritsumeikan University students participated in the special lecture which was held for all third-grade primary school classes on the topic of "Let's Make Videos to Discover Kyoto's Appeal!” The Ritsumeikan Primary School used photos and videos they took during a field trip in October to create videos using Adobe Express. By participating in this lecture, the students learned basic skills in digital design and video editing.
Ritsumeikan University students who have attended events and lectures held by Adobe and regularly engage in other activities using Adobe Express served as lecturers, an Ritsumeikan Primary School alumni and exchange international students were also in attendance.
Using their own tablets, the students struggled with their first efforts, but with the support of the Ritsumeikan University students, they were able to complete the videos to their liking. One of the third graders commented, "It was difficult to enter the text, but with the support of the university students, I was able to do a good job.” Using the completed works, the primary school plans to hold an exchange of opinions and then report the results to the places they visited during last year’s field trip.
In April 2024, Ritsumeikan became the first educational institution in Japan to join the Adobe Creative Campus initiative, and now Adobe Express is freely available to students at every level of education in order to promote creative skills and digital literacy throughout the Academy.
In addition to this partnership between the university and the primary school, Ritsumeikan will promote various partnerships with the junior high schools and high schools, and it will make a concerted effort to cultivate the emergent human resources stated in the R2030 Academy Vision in both curricular and extracurricular settings.
