College of Science and Engineering Associate Professor Tomoko Hasegawa Selected for Highly Cited Researchers List for Fourth Year in a Row
Associate Professor Tomoko Hasegawa of the College of Science and Engineering was selected for the Highly Cited Researchers 2022 list. This marks the fourth year in a row that she has been selected for this list.
The Highly Cited Researchers list, which is released annually by Web of Science owner Clarivate Analytics, recognizes “the world's most influential researchers of the past decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science.” For this year’s list, 6,938 researchers representing a variety of disciplines were selected. Associate Professor Hasegawa was selected for the Cross Field category, which evaluates researchers based on the total number of citations received for papers published in multiple fields.
Associate Professor Hasegawa conducts research related to global environmental issues, particularly climate change, using computer simulations called integrated assessment models that provide integrated analyses of energy, the economy, agriculture, land use, water use, and other factors. Specifically, she is working on forecasting future greenhouse gas emissions, examining measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and conducting an economic analysis of the effects of climate change.
In fiscal 2021, Associate Professor Hasegawa won the Young Scientists' Prize of the Commendations for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for her highly acclaimed research on the relationship between climate change and food security.
Comment from Associate Professor Hasegawa
I am deeply honored to have won this prestigious award. I am extremely grateful for the supervisors who have guided me, the colleagues who I have been conducting research with, and everyone else that supports my research on a daily basis.
Much of the work that was subject of this evaluation was produced when I was working for my previous employer, the National Institute for Environmental Studies. In particular, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my advisor at the National Institute for Environmental Studies not only for supervising my research but also for providing me with an environment where I could concentrate on my research as well as ample opportunities to build international networks and participate in and promote international joint research. I plan to use this as a springboard to further develop my research going forward.
