The 25th AJI Frontier Seminar on “A Preliminary Study on the Development of the Dairy Industry and Women's Labor in India: Focusing on the Women's Dairy Cooperative Association”

On November 17, 2020, the 25th AJI Research Frontiers Seminar was held online. This time, Dr. Yukiko Nakamura (Research Fellow of the Asia-Japan Research Institute, Ritsumeikan University) made an insightful report under the title of “A Preliminary Study on the Development of the Dairy Industry and Women's Labor in India: With Special Reference to Women's Dairy Cooperatives”. This report examined the significance of female labor in livestock and dairy farms under India’s neoliberal reform policies, introducing the multifaceted reality onsite such as the relationship between female labor and neoliberalism, female dairy cooperatives as development agencies, which actually hide class and social differences, and the relationship between men and women's dairy cooperatives. After her presentation, she and the participants shared a meaningful discussion on issues regarding the position of her study in the history of gender researches about India and the present situation of the expansion of the industrial structure of dairy farming in India.
