【Award Report】The Best Article Award Ceremony for Volume 4 of the Journal of Asia-Japan Research Institute was held on Tuesday, May 30, 2023

The Asia-Japan Research Institute (AJI) of Ritsumeikan University held the Best Article Award Ceremony for Volume 4 of the AJI Journal on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 13:00 on Zoom. The Director of AJI, Prof. Yasushi Kosugi, opened the ceremony by welcoming all the attendees and congratulating the award winners, saying that it was an honor they had earned by working hard and producing valued academic findings, and that the University was very proud of their accomplishments.

He explained that the Journal of the Asia-Japan Research Institute was established to disseminate research findings on Asia-Japan Research both from Ritsumeikan University and other research institutions in the world in 2019 and strives to publish only the highest quality academic articles by employing a strict double-blind peer review. Since its introduction, the number of submitted papers has increased year by year and Prof. Kosugi expressed his appreciation to all the authors and all the reviewers for their contribution to the success of this multi-disciplinary academic journal.

This year, the editorial board judged that two articles were equally qualified for the second prize; therefore, one Gold Award and two Silver Awards were conferred. The

Silver Awards were presented to Abu Baker Rafat Khan and Tomohiko Yoshida for their research paper entitled "Measuring the Impact of Travel Behavior in an Urban Form on Location Affordability in Rawalpindi-Islamabad, Pakistan," and to Muhammad Riza Nurdin for his paper entitled "Examining the Effectiveness of Government Agencies in Disaster Recovery: Evidence from Indonesia." The Gold Award was presented to Kanjana Phuaknian for her paper entitled "Factors Contributing to Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction for Foreign Residents in Japan."

In his acceptance speech, Silver Award winner Abu Baker Rafat KHAN expressed his gratitude for receiving the award, acknowledged the hard work and support of his supervisor Tomohiko Yoshida, and thanked the editorial board for their insightful and valuable comments on his paper.

In his speech, Silver Award winner Muhammad Riza Nurdin, who witnessed the massive impact of the disaster in Indonesia, said that he has devoted his research career to helping vulnerable communities in the aftermath of a natural hazard. He expressed his gratitude to his supervisor Prof. Hirono for her guidance, to the reviewers for their constructive feedback, and to Prof. Kosugi, Prof. Brewer, and Dr. Ammar for their support.

The winner of the Gold Award, Kanjana Phuaknian expressed her gratitude to her supervisor, Professor Yusuke Toyoda, for his guidance, and thanked everyone who had offered her their comments and advice. She concluded by hoping that Disaster Risk Reduction for foreign residents will continue to be enhanced in the future.

Finally, the attendees, professors, researchers, and members of the university applauded the Award winners enthusiastically for their hard work and valuable contributions to their academic fields.
