【Report】The AJI Book Launch was held! Prof. Yuko YOTO: Parenting and Education in Contemporary China: Challenges and Views to the Future from Developmental Psychology

On May 31, 2023, Professor Yuko Yato (College of Comprehensive Psychology, Ritsumeikan University) talked about her co-edited book titled Parenting and Education in Contemporary China: Challenges and Views to the Future from Developmental Psychology (2023 March), written in Japanese.

This book presents the findings of a research study on childcare, education, and child development in China. The study examines the impact of different nurturing environments on children in China, with a focus on the current social issues facing the country, such as a declining birthrate, an aging population, gender inequality, and economic disparities. This book is written by researchers from various fields, using methods such as surveys, interviews, observations, and literature reviews. Moreover, this book is written by a diverse group of authors, including researchers, clinicians, and practitioners from both China and Japan. As a result, the book covers a wide range of topics related to the current circumstances of childcare and education in China today. Hence, this book is unique in multiple and realistic portrayals of issues discussed in each chapter. Readers can deepen their understanding of the current situation and various issues surrounding child-rearing and education in China. It also provides clues for solving social issues in Japan, such as supporting child-rearing and promoting family well-being.
