Episode

The eight competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy.
We introduce how they are developed through daily experiences, along with diverse episodes.

*These episodes are based on responses actually submitted by students at every level of education—including elementary, junior high, and high school students, as well as university and graduate students—in the Quantitative Survey for Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework conducted in the 2024 academic year. I have been in an all-English-speaking environment for only 3 years. However, many of my classmates have spoken English for almost their entire life. Because of this, when I first started the IB program at the Ritsumeikan Uji, I felt like I was failing every class. However, after getting used to this new environment, and getting the support from my teachers, I slowly began to build confidence in some of my classes.

Resilience

Through experiencing different relationships with different people I have been able to understand myself better and the kind of person I want to be.

Self-efficacy

I aquired multi-tasking from my club. Since we have our first ever tournament, club tends to get quite busy and I think I started to balance my schoolwork and that naturally as time went on.

Multitasking

I though to do more as I had failed to meet a certain standard and I decided that I had worked better when I put my mind on a spesific goal.

Initiative

Me and my team were working on a project until they broke apart. Then, I eased the tension and gave good reasons why that was dumb, and then we united hence I believe Im good at teamwork

Teamwork

I wasnt doing well on a science project, then I thought about changing things up a bit, but that failed too. I kept on changing and innovating until I got the perfect one and I passed.

Resilience

My greatest teacher told me to continue plugging away because’ it's great.

Understanding

I am a self financial student, that means that I donˋt have any scholarship. My parents are my guarantors, still, because I have the opportunity of work a part time job here, I am working here to reduce the economically burden for them. Still, because I work here, I have to find the balance between school, work, and a healthy lifestyle. At the start I realized that I was doing things wrongly because I was doing a wrong schedule of foods and sleeping, making me more tired. But after my first vacations I could realized how I should organize in order to fulfill all my goals, now I am doing much better enjoying all the small or big moments that this new experience had give me.

Initiative

The reason why I decided to study in AECAL is the integrity with which Affect is approached academically. Through Kansei Engineering and similar perspectives, the design of technology has Empathy as a solid basis for all what comes next. It implies thinking of the users and their emotional experience, as well as the functionality of the solutions we propose.
