Happy New Year.

After a year of turmoil and struggle, a year in which the entire world was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we expect that you are looking forward to the New Year 2021 with exceptional anticipation.

The novel coronavirus has severely and directly restricted human mobility and communication, bringing social and economic activities to a near halt on a global scale, and creating both physical disruptions and psychological distance.

Furthermore, social and economic activities using ICT and AI, such as remote work and online education, have markedly increased. We believe that this is an opportunity to create an inclusive society ("Leave No One Behind") in which all individuals are free to take on challenges and in which all share knowledge widely, regardless of time, place or other limitations.

In November 2020 we developed core concepts for the R2030 Academy Vision, a concrete step in realizing the R2030 Academy Vision "Challenge your mind, Change our future", which plots our course for the coming decade. In 2021, Ritsumeikan Academy will move forward to a new phase in its development.

At a time when the world is undergoing fundamental changes and facing new challenges, we, as a comprehensive private academy with two universities, four junior and senior high schools, one primary school, and an overall enrollment of nearly 50,000 students, remain dedicated to supporting those who strive for learning in diversified community, tackle the challenges of human society, and create new values.

We are indeed grateful for the continued support and understanding we have received from many people over the years. We will continue to forge ahead as we strive to make our contribution to society as a comprehensive private academy, one with deep roots worldwide in communities where we have a presence.
