With the vision of “Space within Your Reach,” we have been engaged in the development of microsatellites since our founding in 2008, putting us ahead of the rest of the world. Based on our proprietary technologies in microsatellite design, manufacturing, and on-orbit operation, we operate AxelLiner, a satellite development and operation business that supports customers’ space missions, as well as AxelGlobe, an Earth observation data service that utilizes our own optical satellite constellation, and in this way, we provide solutions that meet the needs of a wide range of industries. Through these business activities, we aim to realize a society in which everyone can utilize space.

As a company, what value or appeal do you see in the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space's approach to talent development?

The space industry is growing rapidly, and many companies and organizations are seeking to recruit personnel with expertise in the space field, making the hiring market increasingly competitive. We therefore expect that the establishment of the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space, which will systematically cultivate highly skilled, work-ready talent through practical education and research opportunities in collaboration with industry, will lead to the development of many human resources capable of thriving in the space sector of the future.

Developing technologies for the unique environment of space requires engineers with specialized knowledge and technical expertise, but looking ahead to a future in which the space field will continue to industrialize in earnest, it is also important to possess the business perspective of how technologies can be commercialized. The graduate school’s perspective of cultivating comprehensive and multifaceted talent who understand the essence of the space business is something that conventional academia has not previously offered, so we find this highly attractive.

We also find it attractive that education and research will be conducted in a multicultural environment in which approximately half of the students are international students. In addition to allowing Japanese students to develop the English proficiency and communication skills essential for space-related projects, we believe that for international students, the experience of collaborating with their Japanese peers is something that will be valued by Japanese companies.

What kinds of roles or positions within your company do you believe graduates of the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space would excel in?

Although our company openly recruits for a broad range of positions, more than half are engineering positions, and our engineers play active roles across a wide range of areas from hardware to software.

The microsatellite systems we develop consist of many different elements, including orbit and attitude control, structural and thermal design, electronics, embedded software mounted on satellites, and ground operation and remote sensing data analysis software, all of which require close teamwork. We believe that people who have gained practical experience in project management and systems engineering by working on actual projects during their student years will be highly compatible with our company.

What kinds of knowledge and skills would be particularly useful in those roles and positions? Please provide some detailed examples.

Our Group was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in August 2025, making us a space venture company that will continue to grow well into the future. It is an environment where people who think independently can thrive.

Because research and development are indispensable in the space industry, gaining specialized knowledge related to the space field from one’s student years, together with practical educational and research opportunities in cooperation with industry, represents a major advantage. While deepening one’s own expertise, it is also important to broaden one’s knowledge and technical skills into fields adjacent to one’s own specialty.

In space projects, the process of combining diverse elements and optimizing them as an integrated system is critical. For this reason, it is essential to be able to work in teams in addition to developing individual expertise. People who have participated in actual projects—even if only on a small scale—and gained experience integrating systems composed of many different elements while collaborating with teammates will likely find it easier to apply those experiences within our company.

Message for prospective students of the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space

Now that we are entering a new phase in which business activities are expanding into space, one of the great attractions and rewards of the space field is the opportunity to pioneer a completely unprecedented era.

The space field is often seen as complex, difficult, and highly inaccessible, but going forward, people will likely be able to foray into space with the same spirit as participating in a robotics competition. I actually built satellites when I was a student year, and I learned a tremendous amount from that experience. We hope students will take on many different challenges and use those experiences as a foundation for pursuing careers in the space industry.

Our company operates under the vision of “Space within Your Reach,” and we are working to create a society in which people everywhere on Earth use space as a matter of course. We have head that the Graduate School of Frontier Exploration in Earth and Space has adopted the vision of “a center of learning that expands the range of human existence from Earth into space.” As fellow pioneers working together to advance the utilization of space and energize the industry, we greatly look forward to seeing the students who study here play active roles in the future.
